What is Pre-Diabetes? – Pre-diabetes is the early stage of diabetes. It is the time, when you can get the sign and signals about diabetes. It is the stage when your tests for blood sugar are done to determine, in which level you have reached. Basically, it is the stage, when your blood sugar level is more than normal, but not at that extent when you are declared as diabetic patient. If proper measure is not taken in the pre-diabetic stage then it can turn to type 2 diabetes, within next few years. You can call pre-diabetes stage as border line or waking call, where you can make it better for your life. What is Pre-Diabetes?

How pre-diabetes stage is recognized

Pre-diabetes stage is recognized by doctor, after the certain tests are done. There are three types of tests done which are:

  • Fasting plasma glucose test. In Pre-diabetic stage the blood sugar counts from 100- 120.
  • Oral glucose tolerance test. For pre-diabetic stage the blood sugar level will count from 140-199
  • Hemoglobin A1C or average blood sugar level. For pre-diabetic patients is 5.7 to 6.4 percent.

Symptoms of pre-diabetes

Pre-diabetes may or may not give any symptoms. As pre-diabetic stage occurs with stage. It does not come in one day. How to notice and can look for a test:

  • Get thirsty often
  • Get hungry often
  • Feeling fatigue and tired
  • Gaining or losing weight desperately
  • Running to bathroom more frequently

Ones you recognize your stage, that if you are in the pre-diabetic stage, then it is always better to take some precautionary measures, which will stop you from getting in to pre-diabetic stage:


Have check on what you eat and how much. Try to have low fat foods, which are of low calories. Try to avoid starchy carbohydrates, sugar. Have lots of green vegetables, high fiber diet. Try to check in the serving size. Try to have skimmed milk, lean protein diet.

Weight control

Try to control your weight. Try to reduce your weight, people with overweight are more prone to get diabetes.

Regular exercise

Regular exercise, is very much necessary to keep your weight in control. Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes daily. Exercise can be any jogging, walking, aerobics, yoga.

People who are of overweight, perform less physical activity or have record of diabetes in family history need to be cautious, and take steps accordingly. Do not be late or else it will be too late.
