Exercise is necessary to keep body weight in control. It helps to keep blood pressure level and cholesterol in control. Exercise may include aerobics, long brisk walks, cycling.

Maintain a healthy diet which will be low in fat, high in fiber added with all nutrition, vitamins and mineral. Add fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables to your diet. Have whole grains which will help you to have high fibers. Avoid salt and processed food which will help you to keep your health in balance. Avoid fatty foods specially Trans fats. Try to have vegetables and fruits which help to lower the bad cholesterol level. Try to limit yourself to 6 grams of salt per day to avoid high blood pressure.
Too much alcohol consumption helps to increase blood pressure which leads to irregular heart beat. Alcohol has high calories which lead to weight gain which increases the risk of stroke. You should try to limit 3 to 4 units a day for men and 2 to 3 units for women.

Smoking narrows your arteries which makes it difficult to carry blood and helps in blood clotting so it is better to avoid smoking as much as possible. People who are chain smokers try to lower down the limit; do not stop immediately as this again increases the risk of stroke. Take doctors advice regarding the limit of smoking.
Take baby aspirins
Women above age 65 try to have baby aspirins with the advice of your doctor as this may help to lower the risk of stroke.
Diabetes or blood sugar damages blood vessels. Try to keep blood sugar in control. Maintain healthy food habit to keep glucose level of your blood in control.
Treat atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation is a form of irregular heartbeat that causes clots to form in the heart. These clots can then travel to the brain leading to a stroke. Atrial fibrillation needs to be treated by taking blood thinners such as high-dose aspirin or warfarin. Check with doctor for proper medication.
Always try to look from the signs of stroke which can be numbness of the face, weakness on one side of the body, vision less, unusual and severe headache, unsteady walk and numbness and tingling.
