First, get packets of wheat or multigrain daliya from any grocery store. In a pressure cooker, add 1 tsp of oil and add some spices like jeera, coriander seeds, bay leaf etc. Also add sliced onions. Add water and daliya in 1:4 ratio. Add salt and seasoning. Cover the lid and keep it for 5-10 minutes after the first whistle. Release the pressure and serve it with lemon juice. You can throw in some veggies also to make it healthier.
Moong Dal Pancakes
Soak some moong dal overnight and then grind it with some salt. Make sure it turns into a consistent flowing batter. Heat the pan and spread some batter in circular motion. Add some cashewnuts, chopped onions, chopped cabbage, capsicum etc. Put some ghee on top and then flip it over. Cook it for couple of minutes and these nutrition packed pancakes are ready to serve.
This is a popular breakfast item in most Indian households. Take 2-3 cups of flattened rice in a bowl and wash it under cold water. Then let it soak in water for 3-4 minutes. Heat the oil in a nonstick pan. Add black mustard seeds and when they pop, add some peanuts. Keep on cooking on medium heat until the peanuts turn light golden. Add onion, curry leaf, green chilli and saute until the onions become translucent. To this, add potato cubes, green peas and stir well. Finally sprinkle some salt and cook for few minutes. Add the flattened rice and lime juice. Cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes. Your poha is ready to serve.
Savory Oatmeal with Poached Egg
You can take the good ol’ oatmeal to a whole new level by making it savory. Prepare the oatmeal with as usual milk or water and then, instead of sugar, add salt and pepper. Top it with soft cooked or poached egg and sprinkle some cheese for extra taste.
Here’s another super quick breakfast recipe for a nutritious start of the day. Avocado is loaded with fibre and cholesterol-lowering fat. First lightly brush the breads with extra virgin olive oil and then toast them. Mash the avocado onto toasted bread and squeeze lemon juice over the bread. Put some cheese on top of it. Drizzle some more olive oil and sprinkle with lemon zest, salt and pepper. You can also put some thinly sliced basil leaves for garnishing.
